Police recovered the body of 13-year-old Ishayat Shahriar Oprotim from the Lalmai hills in Cumilla on Saturday afternoon, almost a day after he went missing. The seventh-grade student, whose mother is an associate professor at Cumilla University, was found with severe head injuries.

Investigators detained two 17-year-old suspects and recovered the victim’s mother's iPhone, which he had taken to photograph friends.

Cumilla district police said the suspects' confessions helped uncover the motive, adding that a detailed press briefing would be held today.

The murder sparked protests by Cumilla University students, who demanded immediate justice. Also the university suspended classes and examinations, declaring a day of general mourning.
